Hardness surveys
Hardness Testing.JPG
Hardness surveys measure a material’s resistance to indentation, scratching, cutting and bending.

There are a number of methods of detecting hardness, all of which are familiar to our technicians. One of the most common is the Brinell Hardness Test for engineering materials, which applies a specified load to a hardened sphere of a specified diameter. A Brinell
hardness number is then obtained by dividing the load used (in kilograms) by the measured surface area of the indentation left on the test surface (in
square millimetres).

Hardness tests can be applied to various materials from stainless steel to copper/aluminium alloys.
